Before we get sucked into the horror of the slaughter in Pittsburgh, I want to recap what occurred in the last 6 days and its significance.
We have just witnessed an attempt to assassinate 12 prominent Democrats using mail bombs. We have seen a week in which day after day the bombs kept appearing across the nation. The fact that they didn’t explode doesn’t make them any less dangerous, all the postal workers exposed to this danger. What saved us from a bloodbath was the bomber’s ineptitude.
And yet, Democrats and Liberals continue to march along, determined not to be intimidated. Under intense pressure, Democrats and other reasonable Americans, “Carry On” without the hysterics we are used to seeing from the Right.
Which brings me to my point. Americans have a clear choice in the coming elections. They can choose the Democrats whose steady demeanor, even after the recent assassination attempts and decades of physical assaults, continue to push for the well-being of all Americans, including those that are their harshest critics. Americans can choose the Democrats because it has been democratic administrations that provided Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, a steady push for a cleaner environment, quality education for all and so much more.
And then there are the Republicans. For the last 40 years, beginning with Reagan, the GOP has created an ever increasing hysteria amongst their followers. The blatant lying about issues and people has grown to a point that, this year, Republicans across the nation embarrass themselves with lies so transparent that they should be ashamed. This year, Republicans surrendered completely to the Big Lie, and in so doing, have thrown away what little of the tattered honor and respectability they still had.
Yet, Democrats have continued to try to work in a bipartisan manner, knowing full well that the Republicans can’t guarantee their promise because of a feckless leadership that appears not to know a lie from the truth.
Americans have a choice to make. Either vote Democratic, some may need to hold their noses to do so, and vote for a future where the American Dream is renewed. A future where challenges are met with optimism, creative thinking and respect for all the American people.
Or, they can vote for the Republicans, an emotionally scarred assemblage of folks, who have, for decades, claimed to be the victims of other’s malice, even when they are on top. They have used their self-victimization as an excuse to victimize others. They have chosen to attack the most vulnerable of our citizens. They have chosen to be intentionally cruel to families and children in an effort to scare away refugees seeking safety.
Americans have a choice; levelheaded leadership dedicated to the well-being of Americans and the U.S., or hysteria and division.
Think of this. Who do you think would say, “Please correct me if I’m wrong.” Then vote for them.
